i agree! a good night overall, a few more folks there than last time (march 09) too.. there was a good mix of genres there, pink sharabang offering a quirky mix of thier origional tunes www.myspace.com/pinksharabangthey were really tight, and very different from the norm - having the odd xylophone part(done on a keyboard - quite tastefully though!) the drums and bass providing a definate groove to nod your head to with the guitarist providing a plethora of cheeky licks through out! deffinately worth checking out! the roulette, fresh from winning the derbyshire battle of the bands comp were awesome! they were sporting arguably the most tallented drummer and guitarist of the eve(quite upsetting as i was playing too!) theys seemed to split the croud in half at times, some loveing them, some not so much! they were not unlike the libertines in some areas; having lots of energy and lots of presence - i felt really sorry for the buzz band after the rulette played 'foxy lady', a very hard act to follow! www.myspace.com/therouletteboysthe buzz band! vetrans of the derby music scene! tight as ever, deffinately the most well rehursed band of the evening with plenty of experiance, covering all bases sonically! good performance from them! www.buzzband.co.uk/hannah brown was outstanding! she played at the last later with her old band, last chance disco, returning this time as a solo artist! fantastically emotive and instantly winning the love of her peers. proberbly my faveourtie act of the evening - i was actually late back on stage after watching the end of one of her songs. fantastic! as for the alpha killers, well, we seemed to go down alright, a few folks came up to me saying how easy i made it all look... got compliments on my guitar tone too! which is something i always like to hear! hopefully someone watching with an unbiast oppinion will post there thoughts on us! hopefully the charity will have raised vital funds to start up the rockschool in long eaton! there were 4 stages, not circular.. as the hall's limitations wouldnt allow; blocking fire exits, etc. but each band played in 1 to 2 song bursts like on the show... which as far as a 3 hour stint of music goes, helps keep it interesting, rather than a 45 minute, relentless set from each band...
so yeah, 4 stages, each band on thier own individual stage, hannah shared with pink sharabang...
deffinately a well thought out gig, there were a few interviews with the bands too, highlighting the recent achievements/goings off...
tried a bit of a group jam at the end between the 4 stages, didnt work out too well as monitoring was an issue - something to improve upon for next time - perhaps starting the evening, introducing the bands, all jamming on some kinda 12 bar...

the logistics of it all werent too bad to be honest.. big sports hall, 4 stages in a line, by 'stages' i mean just the stuff on the floor...
every band bringing thier own pa stuffs and sound guys... all 4 bands that played have access to thier own pa's so that wasnt too difficult..
when we all got there, just set up, as you would and sort out a few bits of lights around it...
i'm actually part of the organising team behind later... though not in a main roll.. but for future events, i'd like to play a bigger part as its a really good event, for a good cause...
with it being unlike the usual 45 minute set format, where people would switch off, it keeps it fresh being in 1 to 2 song bursts from each act... not sure on the recrutement of bands process.. though tonight, i've been to the ripley music festival agm, and there considering a later styled gig as a fund raising thing before the actuall event!
but yeah, not too much setting up!
